2018 in travel pictures and why we need to be grateful.

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharial Nehru

Being surrounded by the travel race proudly published on every platform imaginable can be daunting. Although I take all the social media business with a little bit of distance, I often find comments from others admiring the perfectly edited photos (yes…perfectly edited, not random), perfect bikini bodies, never-working, always-on-vacation influencers and so on. We all know, or at least I assume that we should know it by now, that this is not 100% real world. The perfect photos take sometimes hours of work, staging and editing to be perfect. The always relaxing influencers spend many hours a day working on their platforms etc. Some full-time travelers visit dozens of countries a year. Not all of us can. I get that it might sometimes make some feel as if their lives were not as interesting, adventurous or whatever other adjective you feel you might be lacking in your life. I’d like you to realize one thing: none of this matters. What matters is being happy with what we’ve got. It’s not about comparison with others, it’s not about so called perfection that is not even real. We create our own perfection, it’s subjective and we are more that capable of it. Let others inspire us, dream and create our own perfection.

I value very much the notion of gratefulness. It walks hand in hand with mindfulness. It helps me to cherish every moment, every place I visit or every piece of material thing I am able to buy. Every trip I take I am grateful for, no matter how small it is. It assists me when I am tempted to compare myself to others or feel inadequate. It reminds me that this is my life and it is beautiful. It reminds me that I am lucky to travel, which is so important to me. Be grateful.

I am grateful for the people I met during my travels last year, the possibility to try new foods, for the experiences I had. This is my 2018 in just a few pictures from some incredible places.

“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends.
You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things: air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” – Cesare Pavese
